What brought you to Northern College?
South Porcupine is my home town - I knew since Gr. 10 that I wanted to become a Social Worker - the first time I attempted it - I was living in Kitchener, Ontario - I was accepted and completed the first year while working as a Bartender. Another decade of life passed until I found myself back in southPorcupine - fell in love - got married - and then finally - applied to Northern College as a very mature student to the Social Services Program and I started again. More prepared, more focused, and on the Dean's list!
Tell us about your favourite Northern College experience?
As a mature married student - I did not participate in any of the socials or events really.
I was fortunate enough to be part of a study group for the whole 2 years and we remained friends for decades. I do remember how the teachers were very hands on and perhaps because of it being Social Work - we had very rich conversations.
What impact has Northern College had on your life?
It was the start of a whole new life for me. The doors and opportunities opened for me to work in a career that I was passionate about. It led me to want more education, more opportunities, and lots more growth. Everyone needs a starting place - and it was mine.
What are you up to now?
I facilitate staff development in Communication and Leadership Skills -mostly in Sudbury - or on-line. I often speak at conferences , MC, provide workshops and assist the planning committee. As a Certified Third Party Neutral - I often Coach individuals and teams through conflict or build teams to prepare for it.
Where are you living now?
I have been living in Sudbury for over 30 years now - lived in Zambia for 4 years and was born and raised in Timmins.
