What brought you to Northern College?

I have fond memories of sitting in class with my mom while she was in the nursing program at Northern. I’d scribble on paper, pretending to take notes, while the classrooms and hallways felt so big and full of possibility. After high school, I moved away to attend a large university, but it never quite felt like home. Returning to Northern as an adult felt like everything came full circle. What once seemed huge now felt familiar, supportive, and exactly where I was meant to be. I was excited to take a program in my hometown—one that would help me build a meaningful career and support my family in the community that raised me.

Tell us about your favourite Northern College experience?

There isn’t just one moment—it’s the collection of small, meaningful experiences that made my time at Northern so special. From taking part in campus social events to studying in smaller classrooms where it was easy to connect with classmates and make real friendships, each piece added to a sense of belonging. Even getting to know the staff and instructors on a personal level made a big difference. I’m truly grateful for an academic experience where I felt like a person, not just a number.

What impact has Northern College had on your life?

Northern gave me the foundation I needed to build a career in the mental health and addictions field, and later the confidence to start my own wellness workshop business.

What are you up to now?

I currently work for Service Canada and also create and facilitate wellness workshops based on my experience in the social services field.
